Our story

Since 1984, we’ve sought to give consumers more choice. From our beginnings as a family business in Australia, we’ve grown from exporting corned beef to PNG, to being the nation’s first meat cannery. It’s this growth that’s seen us become one of PNG’s largest employers, with more than 650 staff nationally.

Today, we offer over 86 varieties of packaged food in addition to automotive, cleaning, hygiene and paint products – so you can always find the perfect choice.

Our history

Starting as a family business (James Barnes Pty Ltd.) in Australia in 1881; we have since developed into one of the premier food packaging operations in the South Pacific Region.

1997

Globe Food & Beverages is founded under the WR Carpenter Group to serve the growing demand for locally produced food and drink products in Papua New Guinea

2000

Production of bottled water and fruit-flavoured soft drinks begins, distributed mainly in Morobe and Highlands regions

2005

Expanded logistics network allows products to reach Port Moresby, Madang, and Mount Hagen

2008

New product line includes biscuits, savoury snacks, and locally sourced ingredients to cater to regional tastes

2011

Globe F&B meets international food safety standards, opening the door for export opportunities in the Pacific

2017

Installed state-of-the-art production and packaging equipment to double output and reduce energy use

2019

Launched a program to source tropical fruits, cassava, and root crops directly from smallholder farmers

2021

Introduced eco-friendly packaging and invested in waste management systems in line with WR Carpenter Group’s green goals

2025

First bulk shipment of beverages and snack products exported to Solomon Islands and Fiji
